Caracas.- Deputy Nicolás Maduro Guerra, son of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, reiterated this Tuesday his support for the «high political command» led by the acting president, Delcy Rodríguez, who assumed the functions of the Executive after the capture of the Chavista leader by US forces.
“We send from La Guaira all the support to the high political command, to the team that Nicolás Maduro Moros left here, to the compañera Delcy Rodríguez, acting president, Diosdado Cabello, Jorge Rodríguez,” declared the parliamentarian to the state channel Venezolana de Televisión (VTV), after participating in a march in that state, one of the three affected during the military attacks of the US.
The demonstration, he said, began at dusk and aimed to demand the “freedom” of the ruler and his wife, congresswoman Cilia Flores, who are imprisoned in New York.
In this sense, Maduro Guerra assured that in the march there was a “spirit of great unity” and “great awareness”, and called on Chavismo to “rise to the occasion”.
“They will see us in the streets at the front, leading the fight for dignity,” he added.
Military Attacks and the Capture of Maduro
On January 3rd, US troops carried out attacks in Caracas and three other states of Venezuela, including La Guaira, in which they captured Maduro and Flores, who were transferred to New York and presented before a federal court.
Two days later, Delcy Rodríguez was sworn in as acting president before the National Assembly (AN, Parliament), which is chaired by her brother, the deputy Jorge Rodríguez.
Since then, the acting president has made several changes in the ministerial cabinet and has announced appointments in different entities, while she has been accompanied by her brother and the Minister of Interior and Justice, Diosdado Cabello, in various public events.
The Minister of Defense, Vladimir Padrino López, reported that 47 members of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB) died during the military operation, a figure that adds to 32 deceased Cuban military personnel, according to the island’s government.
The Venezuelan Executive promoted and decorated the military personnel who died in an event in Caracas led by the acting president along with the Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodríguez.
Chavismo has taken to the streets of Caracas to protest daily since the detention of Maduro and Flores, an event they denounce as a “kidnapping,” and have demanded their freedom and return to Venezuela.
