Tokyo.- North Korean authorities congratulated the new Minister of Foreign Affairs of Venezuela, Félix Plasencia, and conveyed their desire to develop bilateral relations, the North Korean news agency KCNA reported this Thursday.
The Asian country’s Foreign Minister, Choe Son-hui, sent a congratulatory message to Plasencia on the occasion of his appointment and wished him success in his new role, after expressing her expectations that the ties between both countries “develop in accordance with the common interests of their respective peoples.”
Plasencia, who had already served as head of Venezuelan diplomacy between August 2021 and May 2022, was serving as chargé d’affaires in the United States, amidst the process of rapprochement between Washington and Caracas after the authorities captured the deposed president Nicolás Maduro.

Following the capture of the Venezuelan president, Pyongyang “strongly” denounced the act by the United States and described it as “the most serious form of interference in sovereignty” and a “flagrant violation” of international law.
“This incident is another example that clearly confirms, once again, the dishonest and brutal nature of the United States, which the international community has witnessed so frequently for a long time,” a spokesperson for the North Korean Foreign Ministry said at the time.
