OMSA will invest RD$1,999 million in the purchase of 200 new buses to reinforce high-demand corridors
Santo Domingo. The Metropolitan Bus Services Operator (OMSA) announced the acquisition of 200 new units through an investment of RD$1,999.9 million, with the aim of strengthening the trunk and secondary corridors of greater demand in national public transport.
The purchase is part of the national public bidding process identified as OMSA S.A.-CCC-LPN-2026-0005, published through the General Directorate of Public Procurement (DGCP), and contemplates the acquisition of 100 buses with a capacity for 90 passengers and another 100 units with a capacity for 60 users.
According to the specifications, all vehicles must be manufactured from 2026 onwards and have Euro III or higher diesel engines, guaranteeing higher levels of operational efficiency and reduction of polluting emissions.
The initiative seeks to improve the quality of service offered to thousands of users who daily use public transportation, expanding the response capacity of OMSA on routes with the highest passenger flow.
The new units will be equipped with advanced technology to enhance the safety and travel experience of users. Among the required specifications are monitoring systems with eight video surveillance cameras, artificial intelligence tools for operational supervision, onboard Wi-Fi service, and real-time geolocation systems.
With this investment, OMSA continues its fleet modernization process, betting on a more efficient, safe public transport adapted to the population’s mobility needs. The incorporation of the new buses will optimize the frequency of services and contribute to strengthening the collective transport system in the country.
