Santo Domingo.- The president of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), José Ignacio Paliza, stated this Sunday that the organization is betting on a new generation of leaders ahead of the 2028 elections, when Luis Abinader will not be able to run again as a presidential candidate.
During a press briefing at the XXIV Ordinary National Convention of the PRM, Paliza maintained that there is a consensus to present a single slate in the election of the organization’s new authorities.
“If a single slate is presented, it is because there is only one single slate. There is consensus, there is agreement, and there is identification with the fundamental purpose, which is to win the Presidency once again in 2028,” Paliza expressed.
The also Minister of the Presidency pointed out that the party must go to the 2028 elections with figures from a new generation to assume the presidential candidacy, while Abinader will continue to exercise leadership within the entity.
The former senator for Puerto Plata also stated that this generation “will replace in time, in the presidential candidacy” the current head of state and maintained that unity will be one of the elements of the organization’s strategy for the upcoming elections.
“The PRM has won two formidable processes and in unity we will win again in 2028,” he declared.

When questioned about the balance of his two consecutive terms at the head of the PRM, the leader said that the experience allowed him to acquire knowledge and highlighted unity as one of the main results of his eight years of management.

“This has been an enriching process for me. I have learned a lot, I am very grateful for the opportunity I have had. I became president at 35 or 36 years of age,” he indicated.
He added that maintaining internal cohesion was not the result of an individual effort, but of the participation of the organization’s leaders and members.
“We have done the best we could and we have delivered a united party,” he/she expressed.
Paliza recalled that internal differences constituted one of the main challenges for the political organizations historically linked to José Francisco Peña Gómez, whom he defined as a mentor and guide.

“In eight years we have lived in unity. And unity is the main element that has been able to identify these eight years of administration,” he maintained.
He explained that during his administration, efforts were made to establish a culture in which the organization’s objectives were placed above the individual interests of its members.
“We have managed to fundamentally instill the culture that above particular elements, above particular interests, is the collective,” he noted.
2028 Elections and PRM
During the meeting with the media, José Ignacio was also questioned about alleged discontent regarding the reported non-inclusion of Gloria Reyes on the slate to join the new PRM leadership.
“But who told you that? Let’s wait a little while,” he replied with a laugh, without confirming the premise put forward by the journalist.
The XXIV Ordinary National Convention has among its objectives to define the authorities that will assume the leadership of the party after the conclusion of the period headed by Paliza.
