Authorities seized a 9mm pistol and a bladed weapon used during the clash in La Otra Banda
Santiago.- The
National Police arrested a man identified as the alleged perpetrator of shooting another during a violent fight that occurred in the
Villa Liberación sector, in
La Otra Banda, an event that was captured in videos spread on social media.
The detainee was identified as “Ramón Malaquías Checo”, who was arrested by members of the Preventive **Police** and Criminal **Investigation** (Dicrim) after a search operation deployed immediately after the incident.
According to the preliminary report, during the confrontation, Lizandro Medina Rodríguez, alias “El Cacú”, 23 years old, was injured by a gunshot. He received a shot in the abdomen, allegedly after attempting to attack the now-detained person with a bladed weapon.
The Police also reported that, in the midst of the altercation, Starlin Gabriel Corniel, 33, was also accidentally injured, suffering a wound to one of his feet. Both are receiving medical attention at a health center.
Video shows moment of the fight
Images captured by security cameras show several men arguing heatedly before the physical confrontation occurred. Seconds later, one of those involved pulls out a firearm and fires in the middle of the fight, causing scenes of panic among residents and passersby.
The incident occurred on a public road and quickly went viral on social media, generating concern among community members in the area.
They use a gun and a knife
During the delivery and arrest process, the authorities seized an S&M brand pistol, 9-millimeter caliber, covered by a valid legal license, as well as a magazine with 13 cartridges and a bladed weapon linked to the case.
The law enforcement institution indicated that the handover of the detainee was facilitated by a family member who identified themselves as a lawyer.
Ramón Malaquía Checo was transferred to the Homicide Department of the Dicrim, where he will be investigated and subsequently brought before the Public Ministry.
Investigating the origin of the conflict
The National Police explained that, so far, the causes that originated the fight are unknown, so investigations continue to clarify the real circumstances of the event and determine possible additional responsibilities.
