Police dismantle network that falsified military badges in La Romana

Santo Domingo,.– The National Police reported this Tuesday that agents assigned to the Provincial Intelligence Division (DINTEL), in La Romana, dismantled a network dedicated to the falsification and usurpation of police and military ranks, during a raid carried out in the municipality of Villa Hermosa. The operation, carried out in coordination with the Preventive Police and the Public Ministry, took place in a house in the Villa Progreso sector, where Juan Isidro de la Cruz Frías, 59 years old, was arrested, identified as a “recognized” forger.

The agency said on its social media that it seized 538 falsified IDs that simulated belonging to different police and military institutions, and related organizations, with fraudulent ranks and functions. During the raid, caps with general and other rank insignia were also seized, clothing with the inscriptions “National Special Squad” and “Community Police“, as well as material alluding to a supposed fire academy, a national volunteer group, and other non-existent entities. The authorities also seized military camouflage jackets, official seals and stickers, 20 national flags, academy-type badges, five communication radios, ammunition of different calibers, documentation of the so-called “Special Squadron Foundation”, a sign with the company name “National Special Squadron” and three identity cards in the name of the detainee. The accused and all the evidence were made available to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, while investigations are being deepened to establish possible links and proceed in accordance with the law.
