Santo Domingo.– The National Police reported this Monday that the video footage analyzed so far does not show evidence that an officer had physical contact with 21-year-old Librand Alexander Tavares, who died after suffering a traffic accident in the Las Cuchillas community, El Seibo province.
When offering details of the case, the institution’s spokesperson, Colonel Diego Pesqueira, explained that the investigation is being carried out jointly with the Public Prosecutor’s Office and remains open to clarify the circumstances in which the event occurred. He indicated that the process is being conducted with criteria of transparency and objectivity.
As explained, the audiovisual material shows the young man riding a motorcycle while passing through a preventive checkpoint without slowing down, despite the signals made by the officers. He added that the images do not show any aggression or contact between the police officer and the motorcyclist before the accident.

Pesqueira noted that the crash occurred a few seconds after the young man passed through the police checkpoint, which is why the institution decided to release the video with the aim of clarifying the versions circulating about an alleged intervention by an officer in the death. However, he reiterated that the investigations are ongoing and that all necessary evidence will be incorporated to determine precisely how the events occurred.
