Santo Domingo Oeste.– Agents of the Division of Illicit Trafficking of Goods Investigation of the National Police seized a shipment of 100,000 cigarettes illegally introduced into the country and arrested three men during an operation carried out in the La Cuaba sector, in Santo Domingo Oeste.
The intervention was carried out on the Salamanca highway, in front of a farm in the area, as a result of intelligence and investigation work aimed at combating the illicit trafficking of goods.
According to the police report, the three detainees, all Dominicans and adults, were caught in the act while traveling in an Isuzu truck, white in color, license plate L463099.
During the vehicle inspection, the agents located a total of 100,000 units of contraband cigarettes in the rear of the truck, which would presumably be distributed and sold at different points throughout the national territory.
As part of the operation, the authorities also seized a white Toyota RAV4 jeep, license plate G602373, and a gray Toyota Hilux pickup truck, license plate L449875, vehicles that, according to preliminary investigations, would be linked to the transportation and custody of the illegal merchandise.
The National Police reported that the three men arrested, along with the seized cigarettes and the retained vehicles, were placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office for the corresponding legal proceedings.
Authorities indicated that investigations are ongoing to determine the scope of the operation and establish possible links to networks dedicated to the smuggling of goods in the country.
