Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Public Health announced that this Monday, July 13, it will begin the procurement process for the medication Risdiplam (Evrysdi), intended for patients with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) who are part of the High-Cost Medication Program.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Public Health, Víctor Atallah, who explained that the measure seeks to ensure that people diagnosed with this disease receive treatment in a timely manner and without interruptions.
Atallah indicated that this initiative is part of the actions promoted by the Government to strengthen access to high-cost therapies aimed at patients with low-prevalence diseases.

To make the purchase of the medication possible, the State allocated a budget of RD$300 million, resources that will be managed through the Directorate of Access to High-Cost Medications (DAMAC).

The authorities indicated that the investment will ensure the continuity of treatment for patients currently enrolled in the program, reaffirming the commitment to expand access to essential medicines for high-complexity diseases.
