Santo Domingo.- The Dominican merengue artist based in Mexico, Ramón Glass “Merenglass” presented his new literary work this Thursday, “How to understand today’s diplomacy”, a book that addresses the challenges of contemporary international relations and topics such as geopolitics, international cooperation, the culture of peace, and protocol.

Glass explained that one of the central themes of the work is dialogue, supported by the ability to hear and listen. “Diplomacy is the art of listening amidst the noise,” he stated, highlighting the importance of strengthening this practice to promote understanding and improve relationships between people and nations.

The cultural promoter further detailed that one of the main purposes of his work is to bring new generations closer to knowledge, connecting his extensive musical career with the research work that supports his book.

This is why he points out that he seeks to leverage his experience on stage to also convey tools that contribute to the construction of a better society.

“The first thing is to unite music, to which I have dedicated more than 40 years, with research work. So, when from the stage you can motivate people to jump, to dance, to enjoy, but you can also motivate them by saying: ‘there are some tools that if we apply them we will have a better society’. And from there that idea of uniting this is born, and that is why I believe that is where I am going to connect with the new generation”, stated Ramón Glass.

Bringing diplomacy to the classroom

The musician proposes in his literary work that training in diplomacy should begin in the classroom, as a tool to foster healthier coexistence and strengthen dialogue skills among citizens.

“I propose in the book that citizen diplomacy should be taught in classrooms,” stated Glass, a proposal that, as he explained, must be accompanied by training oriented toward peaceful coexistence.

The performer of the song “El Baile del Oso” detailed that his proposal includes three elements he considers essential to strengthen coexistence: ethics and civics, peace education, and learning dialogue as a way to address differences.

“This includes, for me, three sections that I believe are fundamental. First, ethics and civics, which go together. Second, educating for peace. And third, which I believe is so fundamental, starting to understand how to dialogue,” he expressed.

The formal presentation of the publication was led by the First Secretary of the Embassy of the Dominican Republic in the United Mexican States, Samuel Esteban Peña Valdez, who highlighted the depth, relevance, and forward-looking vision that the author leaves in the work, while also emphasizing his extraordinary background, which combines art, culture, international politics, and history.

The publication seeks to bring knowledge about the international system closer to students, public servants, diplomatic officials, communicators, teachers, and individuals interested in understanding the transformations experienced by relations between States.

Glass has more than 30 years of experience as a director, producer, and promoter of Dominican culture in Mexico. He is the founder of the Merenglass Group and has developed a career that combines artistic activity, communication, and training in diplomacy and international relations.

The event, which was attended by the mayor of Santo Domingo, Carolina Mejia, concluded with the presentation of copies of the book to the Library of the Catholic University, Santo Domingo, to the dean of the faculty, followed by a celebratory toast, a meeting with the guests, and a book signing.
