Baní. – The senator for the province of Peravia,
Julito Fulcar Encarnación, reiterated this Sunday his firm position in defense of the Dunes of Baní, while clarifying that his proposal does not seek to reduce or affect the extension of this natural heritage, but to seek justice for the families residing outside the protected area.
Fulcar explained that for decades numerous families in Salinas have been paying rent to the Baní city council for land that is municipal property, despite being outside the perimeter of the dunes. In that sense, he indicated that his proposal is that these families be recognized as lifelong owners of the land they occupy, eliminating an unfair charge and guaranteeing them legal security.
“The purpose of my management is not to touch the dunes, but to defend them, as I have always done, and at the same time guarantee an acquired right to hundreds of humble families,” the legislator stated through a publication on his social networks.
The senator specified that he has sent his proposal to both the Baní city council and the Senate of the Republic, through a resolution addressed to the Executive Branch, so that action may be taken accordingly.

Regarding the case of the Las Calderas Dunes, the senator clarified that there is no conflict, as it is a settlement dating back to 1750 and currently has a Management Plan.
Finally, the Peravian legislator emphasized that the Baní Dunes are untouchable and that he will continue to firmly defend this natural resource, while seeking to guarantee the safety and dignity of the families that live outside the protected area.
