Several injured in Berlin after a multiple hit-and-run at the LGBT Pride Day celebration

Berlin.- Several people were injured this Saturday in Berlin during the LGBTQ+ Pride Day celebration after a vehicle struck several people in one of the areas where party participants were located, police reported.

“A car has allegedly entered the park and struck several people, and there are also visibly injured individuals, which is why the Berlin fire department is attending to patients in the Tiergarten,” a spokesperson reported on Berlin’s X account.

The authorities, who have deployed a force of 2,200 police officers during the LGTBI Pride Day celebration, are searching for “possible suspects” responsible for the hit-and-run.

According to the newspaper Bild, the incident occurred around 8:00 PM GMT on Lennéstrasse street, adjacent to the Tiergarten, the large park in the center of Berlin that this Saturday was the scene of the end of the LGBTI Pride Day celebration, an event that brought together hundreds of thousands of people in the German capital.

The celebration of LGBTI Pride Day in Berlin

Berlin celebrated its LGBTI Pride Day this Saturday with a march in which local authorities expected the participation of hundreds of thousands of people.

“We have the participation of several hundred thousand people, just like in previous years,” a Berlin Police spokesperson indicated earlier to EFE, on a sunny day with summer temperatures that will reach a maximum of 28 degrees, according to the weather forecast.

Under the motto ‘Haltung is hot’, which can be translated as “taking a stand is attractive”, 83 floats and 55 walking groups were scheduled to parade for this year’s event.

In Berlin, the LGBTI Pride Day march is known by the acronym CSD, which stands for ‘Christopher Street Day’.

Those initials refer to the name of Christopher Street in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of New York, the scene of protests in the summer of 1969, following a police raid, which are considered one of the milestones of the gay rights movement.

In Berlin, for days now, the main arteries of the German capital’s center have been prepared for the traditional parade of floats and participants in one of the largest festivals hosted by the German capital.
