Bogota.- Colombian singer Shakira announced this Friday that the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, of which she is a collaborator, will donate $500,000 to help children in Venezuela following the two earthquakes that affected the country.
“I am proud to share that the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund will allocate $500,000 to support organizations in Venezuela that help children whose education has been interrupted by this terrible tragedy,” the artist stated in English in a video posted on Instagram.
The singer invited local organizations to apply for funding to help minors and affected teachers return to school and thus restore access to education.
Shakira reported that several authorities have already “stepped up” in this campaign, such as the Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney.

Likewise, he addressed the Prime Minister of Portugal, Luís Montenegro; the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, and the Chancellor of Germany, Friedrich Merz, to commit to “unlocking the necessary resources to support children’s education during Venezuela’s recovery.”

“If you believe that all children deserve the opportunity to dream, join this effort,” Shakira stated while inviting her followers to donate to the campaign.
Venezuela suffered two earthquakes of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 last week, which to date have already left 2,595 dead and 12,400 injured, leading hundreds of people to turn to collecting donations to help the country’s population.
