Santo Domingo.- Agents of the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD) and members of the Public Ministry, supported by the Specialized Airport Security Corps (CESAC) and Customs inspectors (DGA), seized eight packages presumably cocaine, during joint inspection work carried out at Las Américas International Airport (AILA-JFPG).
The operational units were checking the loads in one of the terminal’s warehouses when a canine unit gave a positive alert for narcotic substances inside several cardboard boxes, which according to the declaration would be sent to Madrid, Spain.
By order of the prosecutor, the opening process was initiated, locating in three boxes, a total of eight packages presumably cocaine, wrapped in plastic bags, weighing more than five (05) kilograms.
As established, the packages were sent by a woman, with a supposed address on the San Isidro highway, Santo Domingo Este municipality, and would be received by an individual residing on Monte Perdido street, in Madrid.
“Inside one of the boxes, the authorities found wrapped, among the packages, a black GPS,” states the press release.
The Public Ministry and the DNCD are expanding investigations in relation to the thwarted shipment of the alleged drug under this modality, to identify, arrest, and bring to justice those involved in the case.
The substance packages were sent to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) for the corresponding purposes.
