A 20-year-old man died and four teenagers were shot in a shooting that shook the city of Yonkers, in Westchester County, New York, on Sunday night.
A 15-year-old minor was arrested at the scene minutes after the attack. Authorities described the incident as a targeted act and ruled out any threat to the general community.
The Yonkers Police Department (YPD) received the emergency call around 8:43 p.m. on Sunday. Upon arriving at the intersection of Elm Street and Palisade Avenue, officers found five people with gunshot wounds.
The most serious of the cases was that of a 20-year-old man, who had a gunshot wound to the back and was declared dead at the scene. The four survivors—aged 14, 15, 15, and 16—were taken to the hospital, where they remain in critical but stable condition, as stated by the YPD in its official press release.

A suspect arrested at the scene
While emergency teams attended to the victims, officers took a 15-year-old teenager into custody at the scene of the shooting.
The YPD did not immediately specify if the minor will face formal charges, but confirmed that investigators recovered a loaded firearm and ballistic evidence in the area.

The uniformed officers cordoned off two distinct areas with security tape during the night. One extended in the vicinity of the Ultimate Gas Station, located at the corner of New School Street and Elm Street. The other was established further up on Palisade Avenue. Both areas were processed by forensic personnel in the following hours.

The age range of the injured is striking: three of the four survivors are under 16 years old, and the youngest is just 14.
NBC New York specified that it remains unclear if the five victims were the targets of the attack, even though the Yonkers police described the event as a targeted episode. CBS New York reported that the four teenagers remain hospitalized in critical but stable condition, with a favorable prognosis for survival.

The investigation, still open
The YPD assured that the shooting was an isolated incident and that there is no risk to the surrounding residents. Authorities did not offer details regarding the possible motive or the identity of the victims.
Fox 5 NY stated that the police also did not clarify whether the arrested teenager has any prior connection to the injured or the deceased person.
The investigation remains active. The YPD committed to disclosing more information as the case progresses, although it did not set a deadline for further updates. The Westchester County District Attorney’s Office has also not issued any statements so far.
