Chile.-Authorities at the Carlos Van Buren Hospital in Valparaíso (120 km northwest of Santiago) confirmed the death of a second victim of the brutal shooting that broke out last Wednesday night in Rodelillo hill, which left another seven injured, two of them in critical condition.

The new victim was identified as Nahmia Escobar Jofre, 20 years old, who joins Ninoska Carvajal, 19, who died that same night after receiving a bullet to the stomach.

“The other patients are stabilized and evolving under strict medical monitoring,” indicated the healthcare facility.

According to security camera footage, the incident occurred at 22:28 hours at the corner of Rodelillo Avenue and María Labrín passage, when an as-yet undetermined group of subjects fired repeatedly from a moving vehicle at several people who were on the street, unleashing the tragedy.

The police have not yet found those responsible for the savage attack

Two people in critical condition

The acting director of the Carlos Van Buren Hospital, Simón Rojas, updated the health status of the survivors, two of whom are in critical condition.

The first is a 54-year-old man who was shot in the spinal cord and has lung damage, while the second is fighting for his life after receiving an abdominal gunshot wound.

Other less seriously injured people, aged 73 and 31, have injuries to their limbs and had to undergo orthopedic procedures, while two other people suffered trauma to their faces.

Rojas detailed that in total they received nine patients, a matter that forced health workers to react simultaneously to attend to them, causing true  care chaos with frantic resuscitation attempts and family members outside the facility lamenting and crying out for justice.

That being said, the exact motive for the shooting that occurred on Rodelillo hill is still under investigation, although the local Prosecutor’s Office and the police are considering several hypotheses such as a territorial dispute over drug trafficking, revenge, or a contract killing.

For now, the proceedings are aimed at analyzing the ballistic evidence found at the scene, security cameras, and the statements of victims and witnesses, as no arrests have been reported for the ruthless attack.
