Within the framework of Dominican Week 2025, organized by the American Chamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic (AMCHAMDR), the Superintendent of the Securities Market, Ernesto Bournigal Read, highlighted the solid performance of the Dominican capital market, emphasizing its growth, stability, and investment potential.
In his opening remarks to the panel “Financial Market Perspectives and Opportunities for Investors in the DR,” the official highlighted the growth trajectory maintained by the national economy, with a projected increase in real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of 3.5% for the current year.
“Beyond the figures, what truly distinguishes our country is its stability, reflected in key indicators such as sovereign risk, the perception of corruption, and the quality of governance.”
He added, “The Dominican stock market reached a record liquidated volume of USD 240 billion in 2024, equivalent to 193% of GDP; the amount under custody reached USD 48.37 billion at the end of August 2025; currently, 4.7% of the amount under custody corresponds to foreign investors.”
This sustained growth is a clear sign that the Dominican stock market is no longer a promise: it is a reality that drives the country’s economic development.”
In that sense, Bournigal Read highlighted the transformative role of the Dominican stock market in the country’s economic development, especially through investment funds, which have financed dozens of projects in strategic areas such as energy, tourism, and infrastructure, generating employment and promoting sustainable development.
“Since 2015, USD 80 billion has been raised through the stock market. Closed-end investment funds have channeled USD 4,322.97 million, funding more than 140 projects in key sectors and generating more than 40 thousand jobs in 2024,” he detailed.
The superintendent spoke about the democratization of market access, noting that this is reflected in the growth of brokerage accounts, which already exceed 171 thousand, and in the strengthening of financial education through the HUB ProInversionista.
He also mentioned the implementation of regulatory reforms aligned with international standards, such as IOSCO (International Organization of Securities Commissions), IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards), and FATF (Financial Action Task Force).
In other news, he reaffirmed the Superintendency of the Securities Market’s (SIMV) commitment to the META 2036 plan, which seeks to double the national GDP. In that same line of innovation, he said that they are working on new financial instruments that respond to the needs of the market, citing as an example the Crowdfunding Regulation, prepared together with the World Bank and currently in public consultation.
He said that the transformation process also includes a technological modernization, with the adoption of artificial intelligence and blockchain to strengthen risk-based supervision.
Bournigal Read concluded his words with a call to look at the potential, stability, and will for transformation that today defines the Dominican Republic.
