Venezuela.- The Government of Venezuela criticized this Tuesday the President of Guyana, Irfaan Ali, for complaining about a brooch worn by the acting President Delcy Rodríguez, in which the Essequibo is represented within the Venezuelan territory, a region disputed by both countries, rich in minerals and deposits.

“The president of Guyana is involved in a scandal because I always use the pin with the map of Venezuela, with the only map I have known in my life – and which includes the disputed region -“, said the acting president herself during an event in Carabobo state (north), on the occasion of the national pilgrimage that she convened for 13 days to ask for the cessation of sanctions against Venezuela. Rodríguez recalled that on May 4, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) will begin hearings for the territory dispute and confirmed that his Government will be there to demand “respect”.

Earlier, Venezuela’s Chancellor Yván Gil also criticized Guyana’s stance on Rodríguez’s brooch on X. “The garment that obsesses him today is nothing more than the expression of a historical truth,” said Gil about the Essequibo, the region of about 160,000 square kilometers that Venezuela considers part of its territory, although it is administered by Guyana, which also claims it as its own.
