The DR medical brigade that treated more than 2,500 people in Venezuela receives recognition

Santo Domingo.– The Ministry of Public Health recognized the work of the 40 members of the Dominican Republic Emergency Medical Team (EMT-RD) who participated in a humanitarian mission in Venezuela, where they provided healthcare assistance to communities affected by earthquakes.

During an event led by the Minister of Health, Víctor Atallah, and the Vice Minister of Risk Management and Environmental Health, Gina Estrella, the members of the brigade received certificates of recognition for their dedication, preparation, and commitment during the 12 days of operational work in Venezuelan territory.

In addition, special plaques were presented to the coordinators of the groups that were part of the mission, in recognition of their leadership during the deployment, as well as to Vice Minister Gina Estrella for her coordination and support work.

Atallah highlighted that the team’s performance was a source of pride for the Dominican Republic, noting that the brigade demonstrated the country’s ability to respond to international emergency situations.

“You have a place in the history of our country and in the heart of the Venezuelan people,” the minister expressed, while valuing the dedication and solidarity demonstrated by the health professionals.

For her part, Vice Minister Gina Estrella pointed out that the mission made it possible to demonstrate the years of preparation and strengthening of the EMT-RD to act in disaster scenarios.

During its stay in Venezuela, the Dominican team assisted 2,502 people through general medicine, pediatrics, gynecology, and mental health consultations. It also performed diagnostic tests, administered vaccines, delivered medications, and carried out actions related to water, sanitation, health promotion, and disease control.

According to the mission’s final report, the Dominican brigade provided nearly 28% of the medical care offered by the international teams deployed in Venezuela, which highlighted their technical and operational capacity.

The work of the EMT-RD was also recognized by the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) and by the Venezuelan authorities, who presented certificates of recognition to the participants for their contribution during the emergency.
