The cinematic universe of The Lord of the Rings could expand again with a new stage on the big screen. The next film, titled The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, could become the beginning of a new trilogy based on stories from the legendary world of Middle-earth. The project will have the direction and starring role of Andy Serkis, recognized for bringing to life the iconic character of Gollum in the original films. The new production will explore a little-shown episode in cinema: the pursuit of Gollum before the main events of the saga. The story will unfold during the events preceding the formation of the Fellowship of the Ring, when the wizard Gandalf entrusts Aragorn with the mission of finding and capturing Gollum, in order to prevent him from revealing information about the One Ring to the dark lord Sauron.
