The Pope Leo XIV received this Thursday the families of the six Italian boys and girls who died in the fire on the night of January 1st in a bar in Crans Montana, Switzerland, in which 40 young people died and more than a hundred were injured, the Vatican press office reported this Thursday.
The Pope had already wanted to join the pain of those affected by sending a telegram after the tragedy, signed by Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin, to the bishop of the diocese of Sion, Monsignor Jean-Marie Lovey, in which he expressed that he was praying for the victims and their families.

“May the Mother of God, in her tenderness, bring the consolation of faith to all those affected by this tragedy and keep them in hope,” concluded the pontiff’s telegram. Among the 12 Italian youths injured in the fire at the ‘Le Constellation’ Bar who are admitted to the Niguarda Hospital in Milan, seven are intubated in intensive care and another five are in the Burns Center, where they receive constant medical attention. One young Italian woman remains hospitalized in Switzerland. The families of the deceased young people will also hold a meeting this Thursday with members of the Government, including the Minister of Justice, Carlo Nordio, to “coordinate a common line regarding the possible process both in Switzerland and in Italy, as well as to evaluate other initiatives”, government sources explained in a statement.
