“The Rejected 2: Space Operation” arrives in theaters with a commitment to humor and political satire

The sequel to the Bougroup production will premiere on August 13 and will take its protagonists into space amidst a threat against humanity

Santo Domingo.– With a story that takes its protagonists off the planet, new characters, and a comedic approach that incorporates elements of satire and political references, “Los Rechazados 2: Operación Espacial” held its premiere gala and is preparing to hit theaters across the country this August 13th.

Bougroup’s production picks up the story of the group of characters who, despite their lack of experience and preparation, end up becoming humanity’s last hope against a threat that puts the planet’s survival at risk.

In this second installment, a climate crisis threatens to destroy civilization and a powerful artificial intelligence determines that the best alternative to save the planet is to eliminate human beings. Faced with this scenario, the protagonists must travel into space to try to stop it.

During the premiere, actor Pedro Manuel Casals, who is part of the cast, highlighted the evolution of his character, who goes from being an “import minister” to becoming an advisor to the president, assuming greater responsibilities within the plot.

“I am no longer just an import minister, now I am an advisor to the president and I have more functions, I can build a team, in which I already have more obligations,” explained Casals.

The actor also highlighted the sequel’s humorous approach and considered that the production represents an evolution in the way comedy is addressed within Dominican cinema.

“We Dominicans have already moved on from simply making films with clumsy humor, occasional humor, or seasonal humor, to now making humor that serves as a reference,” he maintained.

Casals also anticipated that the film contains symbols and situations that can be interpreted from a political perspective, while stating that these elements are designed to connect with the audience.

“There are symbols in the film that carry a metapolitical message that I think the audience is going to enjoy,” he stated.

The film, directed by Yasser Michelén and produced and written by José Ramón Alamá, has a duration of 90 minutes and combines comedy, drama, and science fiction.

The cast is made up of Pepe Sierra, David Maler, Frank Perozo, Vicente Santos, El Napo, Haraka Kiko, Chimbala, Crismel White and Luinis Olaverría, in addition to the special appearances of Omega El Fuerte, Alexandra MVP, Bulin 47, Ariel Santana, Pedro Manuel Casals and Ramón Tolentino.

The production also features cinematography by Camilo Soratti and editing by Marcos Caraballo.

According to José Ramón Alamá, producer and writer of the film, the second installment seeks to expand the reach of Dominican comedy and continue the path laid out by the first movie.

“Los Rechazados set a precedent in Dominican cinema and a turning point for the country’s audiovisual industry,” expressed Alamá, who highlighted the international reach achieved by the first installment.

One of the elements that also promises to grab the audience’s attention are the surprises reserved for the end of the film. Casals recommended that viewers stay in the theaters once the credits conclude.

“When the movie is over, don’t leave the theater. Wait for me,” the actor announced

“The Rejected 2: Space Operation” will be available in theaters in the Dominican Republic starting August 13, 2026.
