Cali.- In his presidential inauguration speech for the 2026-2030 term, broadcast from the Pichincha Military Canton, President Abelardo de la Espriella announced as his government’s priority the total recovery of security and freedom in the country, and reaffirmed his commitment to defeating narcoterrorism and all criminal organizations.

The president evoked the experience of the government of President Álvaro Uribe Vélez at the beginning of the century, when “the authority of the State was re-established.”

“We learned that when the Government supports the public security forces and fulfills its duty, violence recedes and people regain their peace of mind. That experience confirmed to us that security is not built with concessions to crime, but with authority and perseverance,” he stated.

De la Espriella defined security as the right of Colombians to live without fear.

“Restoring security means giving peace of mind back to the citizen who faces fear every day. It means that the honest person does not have to hand over the fruits of their labor to the criminal who extorts them, that the working woman can use public transport without fear of being a victim of crime, that parents can watch their children play in the streets without fear that a gang will snatch away their future, that the business owner can open the doors of their business without receiving threats from those who live off intimidation,” he noted.

The president was firm in setting his government’s line on public order:
