Washington.- A White House report accuses the National Museum of American History, managed by the Smithsonian Institution, of being riddled with politically biased “activists” who do not seek to exalt American history and adopt overly critical views on slavery or in favor of undocumented immigration.
“Our primary finding (…) is that the museum’s leadership has explicitly adopted an ideological framework that does not treat the history of the United States as a common heritage to be taught and celebrated, but as a political instrument of division, discouragement, and despondency against our citizens,” explains the report from the White House National Policy Council, which was released this Sunday.
In the authors’ opinion, the museum, one of the main institutions controlled by the Smithsonian Institution, is full of “extremist political activists who want to transform our country.”
The museum and “patriotic narratives”
“According to what the museum now says, the country, above all else, is defined by white supremacy, slavery, conquest, exclusion, power hierarchy, racism, xenophobia, misogyny, and systemic injustice,” adds the report from this body that advises the President of the United States, Donald Trump.

The 162-page report criticizes that the exhibitions move away from “traditional patriotic narratives,” that it supports illegal immigration, and that it excessively echoes the struggle of the country’s pro-immigrant movements in seeking to recognize their contribution to the country and their right to regularization.

The museum “can and should acknowledge slavery, injustice, and the mistreatment of native peoples, as well as other wrongs, without encouraging citizens to view their country primarily through suspicion, resentment, and division,” the report clarifies.
