The U.S. and Ukraine assured this Sunday -in a joint statement- that, as a result of the conversations held by both parties today in Geneva, the two countries “elaborated an updated and perfected peace framework”, after reaffirming that “any future agreement must fully respect Ukraine’s sovereignty”.
The text published by the White House states that the conversations around the peace plan proposed by Washington to seal peace between Ukraine and Russia were “constructive, focused, and respectful”, as well as “productive”, as they “showed significant progress in harmonizing positions and identifying clear next steps”.
The dialogue in Geneva reaffirmed “that any future agreement must fully respect Ukraine’s sovereignty and achieve a just and sustainable peace,” both sides say.
“As a result of the conversations, the parties elaborated an updated and refined peace framework,” adds the statement, which says that the “Ukrainian delegation reaffirmed its gratitude for the firm commitment of the United States and, personally, President Donald J. Trump for his tireless efforts to end the war and the loss of life.”

The text insists that, as representatives from both countries already stated today, the final approval of the new roadmap for peace in Ukraine will depend on the presidents of both nations, who will continue “working intensely on joint proposals in the coming days”, as well as remaining “in close contact with their European partners as the process progresses”.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy today positively assessed the Geneva meetings and assured, in a more cautious language than that of the joint statement, that changes have been made to the peace plan in accordance with the Ukrainian position.
