Washington.– The U.S. Senate blocked this Wednesday an attempt by Democrats to halt arms sales to Israel, in a vote that highlighted growing divisions within the party regarding military support for its ally in the war against Iran.
The initiative, led by Senator Bernie Sanders, sought to prevent the transfer of 450-kilogram bombs and armored excavators, equipment that, according to its promoters, could be used in military operations in Gaza, Lebanon, and Iran.
Although the resolutions did not succeed, a significant number of Democrats distanced themselves from previous votes and partially supported the measures.

Trump says the war is “very close to ending”
In total, dozens of Democratic senators voted in favor of some of the proposals, reflecting a change in stance compared to similar attempts in previous years.
Republicans, on the other hand, almost unanimously rejected the resolutions, defending the continuation of military support for Israel and warning about the impact on regional stability.
Previously, the Senate rejected with a vote of 47 in favor and 52 against a resolution that sought to prevent the US president, Donald Trump, from ordering new attacks against the Islamic republic without prior authorization from Congress.
This Wednesday, the president assured that the war is “very close to ending” in an interview with Fox Business, while the naval blockade he imposed on Iran in the Strait of Hormuz remains in effect and he sends thousands more soldiers to the Middle East.
