Santo Domingo.– With banners, Dominican flags, and slogans in defense of freedom of expression, dozens of people gathered this Thursday in front of the Constitutional Court to reject the bill that various sectors have dubbed the “Gag Law.”
The demonstration, called by the Somos Pueblo movement for 3:00 in the afternoon, brought together young people and adults who came to the site to express their rejection of several articles of the initiative. The participants requested that those provisions be modified or eliminated, considering that they could affect freedom of expression, the practice of journalism, and the right of citizens to issue criticism on issues of public interest.
During the protest, attendees chanted phrases such as “No to the Gag Law,” “They will not silence us,” and “Corrupt people to jail,” while demanding respect for the citizens’ right to express themselves and protest freely.

The protesters also requested the Constitutional Court to, in the exercise of its powers, declare the initiative unconstitutional, understanding that it could affect fundamental rights.

A large security operation was maintained in the vicinity of the Court, with the presence of National Police officers, both uniformed and in plain clothes, while the protest was taking place.
The gathering took place without incident and brought together citizens who insisted on their rejection of the project, considering that it represents a risk to freedom of expression in the country.
