Santiago, DR. – Members of the organization La Antigua Orden Dominicana held a protest this Tuesday at Duarte Park in Santiago, as part of a 47-day national campaign in which they reject the bill they call a “gag law,” a potential fiscal reform, public financing for political parties, and demand compliance with the immigration measures announced by the Government.
The director of the organization in the Northern region, Lenin Liranzo, explained that the demonstration began on July 1st and will conclude on August 16th. He noted that these sessions are taking place simultaneously in different parts of the country, including Santo Domingo.
Liranzo stated that the movement seeks to draw the public’s attention to what he considers potential limitations on freedom of expression, and expressed his rejection of any initiative that, in his view, could restrict the right of citizens to freely express their opinions.
Likewise, he indicated that the organization opposes a possible tax reform and state financing of political parties, considering that those resources should be allocated to priority areas such as education.
He also demanded that priority be given to Dominican students in educational centers and called for compliance with the 15 migration measures announced by the Government.

During the protest, citizen Margarita Toribio intervened, stating that the Dominican Republic must preserve its independence and called on the authorities to fulfill the promises made to the people, while reiterating the motto “God, Fatherland and Liberty”.
The demonstration took place peacefully at Duarte Park, where participants carried Dominican flags and displayed slogans related to their demands. Authorities have commented on some of the claims raised in the recent mobilizations held in different parts of the country.
