Santo Domingo.– This Tuesday morning, the request for a coercive measure will be heard against Erick Gómez, accused of taking the life of his wife, 33-year-old Maydarlin Acosta, in an incident that occurred in the Buena Vista sector of Villa Mella, Santo Domingo Norte.
During the hearing, the Public Prosecutor’s Office will present the evidence supporting the request for a coercive measure against the defendant, who is preliminarily accused of the death of his partner. The case has caused consternation and left four children orphaned.
According to the National Police, Gómez was arrested while being assaulted by community members who were attempting to lynch him after the incident became known.
The judicial process is taking place amidst growing criticism of State institutions due to the increase in femicides recorded in the country over the last few months, especially in recent weeks. Given this scenario, the Minister of Interior and Police, Faride Raful, admitted that the actions implemented by the authorities to confront this scourge have not yet achieved the expected results.

Raful maintained that the Government is working with a comprehensive approach to prevent gender-based violence, but acknowledged that efforts must be strengthened. “We are doing everything in our power with a comprehensive vision, but, as I said, it is not enough; we have to do more,” she stated.
