The accident occurred around 5:15 in the afternoon, local time, on a railway line located south of Bedford, which triggered a rapid mobilization of emergency teams and the interruption of several rail routes connecting to north London.

The British Transport Police confirmed that one person lost their life as a result of the impact, while several others were injured. In parallel, the East of England Ambulance Service provided a preliminary report that puts the number of those affected at 89.

According to the medical report, 11 people have extremely serious injuries, another 22 suffered injuries considered serious, and 56 received care for minor damage.

Rescue teams, firefighters, medical personnel, and police officers remained working in the area for several hours to assist passengers, assess the damage, and ensure the safety of the area.
