Washington.- U.S. President Donald Trump announced this Wednesday in a televised speech to the nation that he will grant 1,450,000 members of the Armed Forces a «special bonus» worth 1,776 dollars, a symbolic figure that refers to the year the country was founded.
Criticisms of migrants and the previous political system
On the other hand, the US president attacked immigrants and the political system that preceded him and assured that in a few months “we have gone from the worst to the best”, thanks to his deportations and 11 months that have brought the greatest “positive changes” in history.
“Our country was the laughingstock of the world, but they’re not laughing anymore. In the last 11 months, we’ve achieved more positive changes in Washington than any Administration in the history of the United States. There has never been anything like it,” Trump said at the beginning of his speech on achievements at the White House.
Trump contrasted his immigration policy with that of the previous Administration, which he accused of having “inundated” cities and towns with undocumented immigrants and of having released violent criminals who, he said, put innocent people at risk.
According to the president, his administration prioritizes “law-abiding and hardworking” citizens and represents a radical change from what he described as years of migratory lack of control.
Without any kind of evidence, Trump claimed that he has closed the southern border with Mexico and that in seven months no illegal immigrant has entered.
Subsequently, the Republican focused on citing some of the economic achievements of his Administration, assuring that “wages are rising faster than inflation” and that the prices of many services and products have been reduced, mentioning examples such as: a “22% on automobiles” and gasoline at $2.50 per gallon.
