New York.- US President Donald Trump ordered his government and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) on Monday to protect the Potomac River, which bathes Washington D.C., following a wastewater spill that began almost a month ago, and accused the local Democratic authorities involved in the assistance of incompetence.
“The rupture of a sewer in Maryland has caused millions of gallons of wastewater to be discharged directly into the Potomac River as a result of incompetent local and state administrators in essential waste management systems,” said Trump on Truth Social, where he ordered federal authorities to intervene.
On January 19th, the water management company DC Water reported that part of a sewer system collapsed along the scenic road parallel to this river, the Clara Barton Parkway, and estimated that 243 million gallons of wastewater had overflowed at the site, entering the river current, but the incident has not been resolved.
According to the local media The Hill, the discharge of that sewage into the Potomac has become the most serious of its kind in the history of the U.S..
Trump ordered “federal authorities to immediately provide all the management, direction, and coordination necessary to protect the Potomac, the water supply in the capital region and our precious national resources in the capital city of our nation”, and lamented that local authorities have not requested emergency assistance.

“The federal government has no choice but to intervene. FEMA, which is currently being defunded by the Democrats, will play a crucial role in coordinating the response,” he added.
The president specifically accused Maryland Governor Wes Moore, a Democrat, of mismanagement, also accusing him of “not being able to rebuild a bridge,” and already reflected their bad relationship this Saturday when he did not invite him to a gala dinner for governors at the White House.
