Two new femicides are recorded in Panama; the number of victims totals six in 2026

Two women were murdered this weekend in Panama, bringing the total to six femicides so far this year and three so far in March. The bodies of the victims, who are presumed to be minors, had gunshot wounds and were found abandoned on a road that leads from Kuna Nega to Chivo Chivo, in the capital city, a route that remains desolate at night, as reported. One of the women was found in the middle of the road, while the other was in a ditch, on the side of the road. Of a tan complexion and slender build, one of the women wore a green sweater and black shorts. She had a wound on her jaw and a bullet impact on her left wrist. On the side of the body, the front part of a bullet was found, as part of the scene. The second woman, also of slender build, wore a dark blue coat and striped shorts. She had bruises on her body. Both maintained bracelets on their extremities, reported Diario Critica.

These two deaths are added to that of the lawyer identified as Nadine De Jesús Silvera Pereira, 37 years old, who was murdered by hitmen on a motorcycle on March 7 at night in the Costa del Este sector, while she was in the passenger seat of a van. The victims of the six femicides recorded so far were between 18 and 44 years old, and their perpetrators used knives, firearms and even arson. From January 1st to February 28th of this year, official statistics account for three femicides and seven attempted femicides. The murders were recorded in the provinces of Panama Oeste and Panama.
