U.S. stops a new oil tanker in the Caribbean near Venezuela

Washington.- The United States Southern Command seized a new sanctioned oil tanker this Tuesday that was transiting the Caribbean, near Venezuela, amid the quarantine established by the administration of President Donald Trump for these vessels. The vessel, detained under the “Lanza del Sur” operation, was identified under the name Sagitta and according to various marine traffic monitors, it previously sailed under the flags of Panama and Liberia. The Southern Command detailed that the tanker was operating “defying the quarantine” imposed by Trump on sanctioned tankers entering or leaving Venezuela. The operation was carried out in the morning and the armed forces detailed that the seizure took place without incident.

This would be the seventh operation since the Administration began the seizures and the blocking of sanctioned ships in the Caribbean, which began as a pressure measure against the government of the deposed President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro.
