UASD hosts International Panel on Disability “Putting Myself in Your Shoes” to promote empathy and inclusion

Santo Domingo.- The Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD), through the Faculty of Humanities, the School of Psychology and the Chair of Differential Psychology, held this Tuesday, November 25, the International Panel Discussion on Disability, under the slogan “I put myself in your shoes: I walk with you with empathy and education”, with the aim of strengthening institutional awareness and commitment towards a more accessible, just and humanist society. The activity, coordinated by teacher Zoraida de León, took place at 2:00 p.m. in the Paraninfo Andrés Avelino, where national and international specialists gathered to speak on educational, social, and labor inclusion, as well as share life experiences and institutional perspectives. Activist and mother, Raquel Quezada, a defender of the rights of people with disabilities, opened the panel with the theme “I put myself in your shoes: solutions from the shoes of a mother for disability.” Following this, architect Rosario Nicasio de Frigati presented the presentation “Lives that flourish: how employment boosts the talent of each person,” highlighting the impact of labor inclusion. Teacher Norma Duarte addressed the “Developmental Neuropsychology: assessment, diagnosis, and functional intervention for inclusion,” while psychologist Nancy Urbáez shared her reflection “A look from my role as a mother and psychologist,” accompanied by an artistic presentation performed by her son, which marked one of the most emotional moments of the event.

The panel continued with the participation of Juan José Camilo, from the Institute of Special Education and Therapies (IEET), and Mirelis Santos Pimentel, from Alpha Inversiones, who presented “Breaking barriers with De Par en Par: inclusion in action“, exposing real experiences of talent with disabilities in said company. Also, Julio Figuereo shared his motivational testimony “Demonstrating my abilities gives me power”, highlighting the value of autonomy and the recognition of diverse abilities. Dr. Enid Gil presented the topic “University inclusion: advances and challenges at UASD“, in which she detailed concrete steps taken by the academy towards more accessible educational policies. Subsequently, specialist Rosanna Santana, executive director of Abraza Consultores, presented “Overcoming barriers in labor inclusion: First inclusive employment practices program (PEI)”. Artistic closure and final message The day concluded with the performance of the song “Include Me”, by La Tía Nancy and Lorena Frigati, an artistic closing that sought to provoke reflection and empathy among those present. UASD reaffirmed its commitment to a humanist and inclusive education, promoting spaces for dialogue, awareness, and participation that strengthen respect for human dignity and promote a more accessible, equitable, and supportive society.
