Santo Domingo.– The Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) has launched a preventive protocol ahead of the upcoming 2026-2027 academic semester, in light of the possibility of natural phenomena occurring during that period.
The measure was agreed upon during a meeting led by the institution’s rector, Jorge Asjana David, together with members of the university’s Contingency Commission and the general director of the Civil Defense, Juan Salas.
The plan seeks to prepare students, teachers, and employees to act appropriately in the event of an emergency, with special attention to earthquakes and atmospheric phenomena.
The university explained that these actions are being taken following the seismic movements recently recorded in Venezuela and Colombia, in addition to the development of the current hurricane season.
As part of the strategy, the Contingency Commission created a Coordinating Committee that will monitor preventive measures and will be in charge of articulating the necessary actions in the face of any situation that may arise.

The UASD indicated that the objective is to improve its response capacity and strengthen a culture of prevention among the university community that allows for reducing risks and protecting lives.
“Society can and will be able to count on the UASD as an academy not only committed to higher education, but also attentive to social welfare,” expressed rector Jorge Asjana David.
Asjana David added that the university must remain prepared to collaborate, when necessary, with national actions aimed at preventing and responding to natural phenomena.
