La Vega.- A woman identified only as Mary, approximately 45 years old, was found brutally murdered this Tuesday in the community of Jabanal, La Vega province, in a violent incident that is being investigated by the authorities.
According to preliminary reports, the victim had multiple stab wounds, allegedly caused by a machete, as well as blunt force trauma and signs of burns. A small sledgehammer was also found at the scene, with which, according to initial investigations, the victim had been struck on the head.
The discovery took place in the morning hours of this Tuesday in the aforementioned town.
The body was removed by the authorities and transferred to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF), in Santiago, where an autopsy will be performed to determine the exact causes of death.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the woman resided in the municipal district of Guayabal, belonging to the municipality of Puñal, Santiago province, although she was found lifeless in Vegan territory.

The crime has caused dismay and outrage among the residents of Jabanal, who describe the act as atrocious and demand that those responsible be identified and brought to justice.
Members of the National Police and representatives of the Public Ministry are deepening investigations to clarify the circumstances of the homicide and establish responsibilities.
