Beijing.- The
Chinese President,
Xi Jinping, held a telephone conversation this Friday with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, in which they discussed the war in Ukraine and reaffirmed the strategic nature of their bilateral relations, according to state media reports.
During the dialogue, Putin, who according to the Xinhua news agency was the one who requested the call, explained the Russian position on the war in Ukraine and positively valued China’s role in the search for a political solution.
Xi, for his part, reiterated that Beijing will maintain its position of promoting dialogue and favoring a ceasefire, regardless of how the situation evolves.
“Complex problems do not have simple solutions,” expressed the Chinese leader, who urged all parties to keep communication channels open and continue negotiations.
“High level of mutual political trust“
Both leaders agreed to highlight the “high level of mutual political trust and strategic coordination” between their countries and expressed their intention to continue deepening bilateral ties.
In this regard, they agreed to cooperate closely in the organization of the upcoming summit of the
Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), scheduled in Tianjin from August 31 to September 1.
Putin will visit China
Putin, who will visit China in September to participate in the celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, reaffirmed Moscow’s commitment to continue strengthening ties with Beijing on various fronts, including energy and trade.

China and Russia have strengthened their alliance in recent years, with frequent high-level exchanges and growing cooperation in sectors such as energy, defense, and technology.
Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, Beijing has avoided condemning the invasion, defended Moscow’s “legitimate security concerns,” and repeatedly called for resolving the conflict through diplomatic channels.
