Santiago.- An 11-year-old student drowned while participating in a camp organized by the Leonardo Da Vinci school, in an event that occurred yesterday, Friday, at a hacienda located in the La Chiva sector of Gurabo in this city.
The youngest of Haitian nationality was identified as Stefhora Anne Mircie, who was part of an exclusive group of students selected for their high academic performance.
According to preliminary information, the girl would have lost her life by drowning while engaging in recreational activities at the location.
The minor’s mother, visibly affected, demanded justice and stated that she did not know the precise circumstances that caused the tragedy. “I demand justice for my only daughter,” she expressed through tears, alleging that she did not receive clear explanations about what happened.
For her part, Arelis Altagracia Hernández, close to the family, indicated that the death apparently occurred due to alleged negligence by those in charge of the educational center, since, according to what she indicated, the girl had fallen into a swimming pool intended for adults.
The minor resided with her parents in the Villa Elena residential complex, on the Matanza highway, south of Santiago. Her body was transferred to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (Inacif), to perform the corresponding autopsy.
Police authorities initiated an investigation to clarify the real causes of the event and establish possible responsibilities.
The student’s death has caused deep consternation among her classmates, teachers, and school administrators at the Leonardo Da Vinci school, while her remains are being mourned at the Blandino funeral home, located on 27 de Febrero Avenue, in this city.
