460 weapons were taken off the streets in September, according to Task Force

Santo Domingo.  460 weapons were taken off the streets so far in September, as reported by the Minister of Interior and Police, Faride Raful, on the afternoon of this Monday, within the framework of the systematic work of the Joint Task Force to guarantee citizen security. Of these, 355 were illegal, 75 are for investigation, 23 had expired licenses, and 7 were stolen. After being seized, the corresponding actions promoted by the Public Ministry will be carried out; they will then be confiscated and sent to the Ministry of Interior and Police for custody or destruction, as appropriate.

The minister stated in this meeting that 591 raids were carried out with positive results. Regarding homicides, he highlighted the sustained decrease in the rate, which to date stands at a rate of 8.08 per 100,000 inhabitants, compared to the figures of 9.8 in 2024 and 12.04 in 2023, which reflects the permanent systematic work of the task force. He detailed that 25 demarcations are in a single digit and 9 in two. Regarding the robberies, he specified that the reports have decreased from 65,778 in 2024 to 56,333 compared to the same date this year, and reiterated the importance of the population’s collaboration in the process through their reports.

“We call on citizens to report thefts through our platforms and police stations,” said Raful at the 108th meeting of the Joint Task Force, headed by the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader.
