Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader inaugurated this Wednesday the Bayaguana–El Puerto highway, in the province of Monte Plata, a work that responds to a “historical debt” with communities that for decades saw their development limited by the lack of a safe and efficient road connection, said a note from the Palace.

The new route reorganizes the territorial dynamics by connecting provinces with routes that did not exist before.

The Bayaguana-El Puerto road is part of the 103-kilometer corridor made up of the Hato Mayor-El Puerto; El Puerto-Bayaguana; Bayaguana-Monte Plata, and Monte Plata-Cevicos roads, which will allow the eastern region to be connected from Higüey and El Seibo with the northeastern provinces such as Sánchez Ramírez, Duarte, María Trinidad Sánchez and Samaná, without having to travel through Santo Domingo. The Minister of Public Works, Eduardo Estrella, highlighted that this work optimizes travel times, improves road safety, and strengthens the economic exchange between agricultural, commercial, and tourist communities in the region. The work directly benefits communities such as El Mamón, Libonao, Los Manantiales, La Lima, Las Cañas, Majagual, El Puerto, Gonzalo and surrounding areas, reducing historical isolation, facilitating access to health, education and commerce, and decreasing the logistical costs of transporting people and goods.
