Villa Riva, Duarte. President Luis Abinader inaugurated this Sunday the new road that connects Villa Riva with the Autopista del Nordeste, a strategic work that strengthens the connectivity of the Cibao Central with the tourist poles of the province of Samaná, boosts regional trade and improves the quality of life of more than 59 thousand people. The intervention is part of the National Road Modernization Program, promoted by President Abinader and executed by the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC), with the aim of promoting sustainable territorial development, greater regional integration, and an infrastructure aligned with the country’s long-term vision. The project consisted of the total construction of 10.3 kilometers of road, executed by contract by the MOPC, directly impacting more than 50 thousand people from the linked communities. Additionally, 1.7 kilometers of secondary roads connecting different sectors were paved.

Economic, productive and social impact

During the opening ceremony, the Minister of Public Works and Communications, Eduardo Estrella, highlighted that the work will have a direct impact on the local and regional economy, by significantly improving the transportation of agricultural production, the main economic engine of the area.

He pointed out that the commissioning of this new route facilitates the transfer of products to national markets and optimizes logistics to the main highway, reducing transportation costs and travel times for farmers, transporters, and merchants.

Highlights construction of works under Abinader’s management

The municipal mayor, Leonardo López, stated that in the last 20 years of previous administrations very little was done for the development of the municipality, while in the current administration of President Luis Abinader important works have been executed. In that sense, he cited the construction of a police detachment, sanitary sewerage, the renovation of hospitals, the creation of a municipal park and a multi-purpose facility, as well as the Villa Riva–Arenoso highway, gabion walls in Reventazón, the paving of the urban area and the renovation of sidewalks and curbs.

Connectivity, security and opportunities

With this road, Villa Riva integrates into a national logistics axis, strengthening its access to Santo Domingo and the tourist destinations of the northeast, increasing its attractiveness for private investments and improving access to essential services such as education, health, and employment. Likewise, the work enhances road safety levels, thanks to adequate signage and a road surface in optimal conditions, which contributes to reducing accident risks. Indirectly, it also boosts opportunities in sectors such as transportation, services, and commerce along the route.
