Santiago.- With a false identity, Jesús Cruz, alias “Macho”, 28, allegedly tried to cover his tracks in Jamaica, where he was captured four months after being identified as an alleged accomplice in the death of garbage truck driver Carlos Abreu Quesada, in Santiago.
According to the spokesperson for the National Police in Santiago, Fiordaliza Popa Arias, Cruz allegedly entered Jamaica irregularly using a false identity, in an attempt to evade persecution by the Dominican authorities.

Their location and subsequent capture were possible through a coordinated operation between Dominican authorities, international organizations, and Interpol.
Why was “Macho” wanted?
An arrest warrant existed against Jesús Cruz for his alleged connection to the death of Carlos Abreu Quesada, which occurred on April 17, 2026, in one of the parking lots of the Santiago Palace of Justice.

The investigation indicates that the event occurred after a pursuit that allegedly began following a traffic incident. Abreu Quesada reached the vicinity of the Palace of Justice seeking refuge, but was caught and attacked.
The driver was subsequently transported to a health center, where he died as a result of the injuries sustained.
The crime caused outrage and shock and led the authorities to launch an investigation to identify and locate those responsible.

As the investigations progressed in the Dominican Republic, Cruz remained a fugitive and, according to authorities, had managed to leave the country.
Subsequently, he allegedly entered Jamaica using a false identity, a maneuver that was presumably intended to make it difficult for authorities to establish his true identity and locate him.
However, cooperation between Dominican and international agencies allowed for his location to be established and the operation that ended in his arrest to be coordinated.
During the operation, other individuals were also arrested in Jamaica. Dominican authorities are still waiting to receive official information regarding their identities and to determine if they have any connection to the murder of Abreu Quesada.
Now they are seeking his extradition
Following the capture, Dominican authorities are coordinating with their Jamaican counterparts on the necessary legal procedures to achieve the extradition of Jesús Cruz to the Dominican Republic.
Should his transfer be finalized, he must be placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office and appear before the courts of Santiago to answer for the charges attributed to him.
The National Police reported that it will offer new details about the case as the process advances and international coordination is completed.
The capture of “Macho” represents one of the main breakthroughs in an investigation that began with a crime that occurred in Santiago and which, four months later, led the authorities to Jamaica.
Jesús Cruz is identified as an alleged suspect in the homicide, so his capture does not constitute a declaration of guilt. His responsibility must be determined by the courts through due process.
