Doctors announce 24-hour national strike this Wednesday

Doctors from across the national territory are called to a 24-hour work stoppage for next Wednesday, November 4, starting at 7:00 in the morning, as announced by the Dominican Medical College (CMD), in demand of solutions to the difficulties affecting the professional practice of the sector.
The call was made by the National Board of Directors of the union and its provincial presidents, who expressed their concern regarding the lack of responses to the requests submitted to government authorities.
The CMD explained that the strike is part of the protest actions it is carrying out to achieve attention to its demands and establish a dialogue with the Executive Branch.
Despite the suspension, the union assured that emergency services and intensive care units will remain available, with the purpose of guaranteeing assistance to patients who require urgent care.
Doctors demand meeting with the Executive Branch
The leadership of the Dominican Medical College reported that it has requested a meeting with representatives of the Executive Branch on repeated occasions, without obtaining a favorable response so far.
According to the guild, multiple efforts have also been made before different government institutions to present the problems that affect medical professionals.
However, their representatives maintain that these initiatives have not produced the expected solutions, a situation that prompted the call for a new day of protest.
Doctors insist on the need to establish dialogue mechanisms that allow their demands to be addressed and the conditions in which they perform their duties to be improved.

CMD guarantees emergency services during the strike
The Dominican Medical Association specified that the suspension of work will not include emergency services or intensive care units.
In this way, patients presenting critical situations will be able to continue receiving medical assistance during the 24-hour stoppage.
The organization did not detail in the provided information what the specific arrangements will be for outpatient consultations and other scheduled services.
Doctors to march to the National Palace on November 11
As part of its calendar of mobilizations, the CMD also called on medical professionals to participate in a march next Wednesday, November 11.
The demonstration will depart from the Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia Maternity Hospital and will head to the National Palace, where representatives of the sector will seek to draw the Government’s attention to their demands.
The call comes amidst the union’s demands for an institutional response to the problems that, according to its leaders, affect the practice of medicine in the Dominican Republic.
So far, the CMD maintains both the call for the national strike on November 4th and the call for the march on the 11th.
