Santo Domingo.– The People’s Force expressed its concern this Thursday regarding the environmental situation in the Dominican Republic, considering that the country is going through a stage of significant challenges related to the conservation of natural resources and the protection of ecosystems.
The position was expressed by the political organization’s Secretary of Environment, Paíno Abreu, who stated that the commemoration of World Environment Day finds the nation facing problems that, in his view, require a firmer response from the authorities.
Abreu maintained that various actions executed in recent years have generated concern among environmental sectors, especially due to interventions carried out in areas of high ecological value and decisions that, as he indicated, could affect the country’s protected areas.
The political leader pointed out that there is concern regarding the state of wetlands, mangroves, mountains, national parks, and water sources considered essential for environmental balance and sustainable development.

Likewise, he indicated that the protection of natural resources must remain a national priority, due to its direct impact on the population’s quality of life and on future generations.

Among the mentioned cases, he recalled the criticisms that arose following interventions carried out at the Loma Isabel de Torres Natural Monument in Puerto Plata, a situation that at the time sparked debates regarding the preservation of protected areas and infrastructure development.
The People’s Force called for strengthening environmental conservation policies and ensuring compliance with regulations aimed at protecting the natural heritage of the Dominican Republic.
