The defendants also caused injuries to other friends who were accompanying the victim
SANTO DOMINGO.- At the request of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, a court in this jurisdiction sentenced two robbers to 20 and 10 years in prison, who, during a robbery, took the life of a first lieutenant of the National Police and left three friends who were accompanying him wounded, in an event that occurred in 2025, in the Sabana Perdida sector, of Santo Domingo Norte.
Luis Miguel Araujo Díaz (El Guardia) was sentenced to 20 years in prison and Gustavo Adolfo Vinicio Flores (Mojo) was sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment, for the murder of National Police first lieutenant Joel González Lora, and for the injuries caused to Víctor Manuel Sánchez, Keily Miguel Martínez Valdez, and Juan Carlos Martínez Medina.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office, which requested a 20-year prison sentence for both defendants during the judicial process, was represented by prosecutor Juan Olivares.
The defendants violated articles 265, 266, 295, 304, and 309 of the Dominican Penal Code, which define and sanction criminal association, voluntary homicide, and assault and battery.
Also, articles 66 and 67 of Law 631-16, for the Control and Regulation of Weapons, Ammunition and Related Materials.
The file prepared by the investigating prosecutor Jesús Manuel Núñez explains that the event occurred in the early hours of March 2, 2025, when González traveled in his vehicle, together with Sánchez and Martínez, to assist Juan Carlos Martínez Medina, whose vehicle broke down while he was traveling through the Sabana Perdida sector, in Santo Domingo Norte.
While they were trying to repair the breakdown of Martínez Medina’s car, Araujo Díaz, Vinicio Flores and Argenis Valenzuela (Achito) arrived at the scene in a vehicle, with the intention of robbing the victims of their belongings.
At that moment, Lieutenant González Lora took his service weapon and tried to prevent the robbery, but he was seriously wounded by those now being prosecuted, who also wounded Sánchez, Martínez Valdez, and Martínez Medina before fleeing.

González Lora passed away while receiving medical attention due to the gunshot wounds inflicted by the robbers.
In the course of the investigation, the vehicle used by the defendants was located while it was being dismantled in an attempt to evade the authorities, and Argenis Valenzuela (Achito) lost his life in an exchange of gunfire with police officers.
By decision of the judges of the First Collegiate Court of Santo Domingo East, Elizabeth Esperanza Rodríguez Espinal, Flor E. Batista Polo, and José Leonel Asencio Quezada, the defendants must serve their sentences at the Najayo Correction and Rehabilitation Center (CCR).
