The Public Ministry requests 5 years in prison for Raúl Alejandro Girón Jiménez, whistleblower in the Coral case

Santo Domingo.- The Public Ministry requested a five-year prison sentence against Major Raúl Alejandro Girón Jiménez, who served as an informant in the Coral case, after providing key information that allowed the dismantling of the alleged administrative corruption network investigated by the authorities. During the presentation of her conclusions in the main trial, the director of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for the Prosecution of Administrative Corruption (PEPCA), Mirna Ortiz, explained that the request for a reduced sentence is due to the effective cooperation offered by Girón Jiménez, as well as the probative value of the data provided to support the accusation against the main those involved.

The prosecuting body also requested that the defendant be fined 200 minimum wages and that the time he has served under house arrest be taken into account, so that the sentence is considered fulfilled in its entirety or that the remaining time be executed under the suspended sentence modality. In that sense, the Public Ministry proposed that Girón Jiménez comply with specific conditions, including residing at a fixed address previously provided to the court, refraining from carrying and possessing firearms, and appearing monthly before the execution judge. The Coral case involves high-ranking former officials and military personnel, for whom the prosecution requested sentences of up to 20 years in prison, including Major General Adán Cáceres Silvestre, Juan Carlos Torres Robiou, Rafael Núñez de Aza and Rafael Camilo de los Santos Viola, in addition to the payment of fines and the seizure of numerous assets. The Public Ministry accuses the defendants of violating the Constitution, coalition of officials, malfeasance, embezzlement, and money laundering, stating that the collaboration of Girón Jiménez was crucial in revealing the internal workings of the structure and strengthening the case presented before the court.
