UN documents Dominican Army and police ammunition in hands of 400 Mawozo

A United Nations panel of experts on Haiti documented ammunition recovered from the Haitian gang 400 Mawozo that originated from the Dominican Republic’s Army, while other rounds showed characteristics consistent with ammunition diverted from the Dominican National Police.

The findings are included in an interim report presented to the UN Security Council on March 27, 2026. The panel analyzed 89 rounds of 5.56-millimeter ammunition linked to 400 Mawozo. Of those, 25 were marked “ERD,” corresponding to the Dominican Army, while another 16 had markings compatible with police ammunition previously investigated by the panel.

In total, 41 of the 89 rounds examined showed one of the two links to the Dominican Republic. Dominican authorities told the panel that the ammunition marked “ERD” had been purchased from a Colombian manufacturer in 2022.

The report also notes that the Dominican Armed Forces mark their ammunition to facilitate inventory control and help detect possible diversions.
