“National Consultation for the Future of Education opens dialogue with journalists and communicators from the Cibao region”

Santiago. – The Executive Commission for Educational Transformation held a meeting with the purpose of presenting the progress and objectives of the National Consultation for the Future of Dominican Education.

The initiative promoted through Decree 309-26 to build an educational proposal in line with the country’s economic, social, and technological development challenges was presented to journalists, communicators, media directors, and opinion leaders from Santiago and the Northern region.

The Minister of Education, Luis Miguel De Camps, highlighted that the educational transformation seeks to consolidate a more integrated system, capable of connecting all educational levels and responding effectively to the needs of the population.

He explained that one of the fundamental objectives is to guarantee a continuous educational path, from early childhood to higher education and professional technical training, eliminating barriers that hinder the academic and professional development of citizens.

The educational system must be one, because the country is one and people are also a single reality with multiple dimensions”, expressed De Camps when referring to the need to strengthen the articulation between the different educational subsystems.

For his part, the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Rafael Santos Badía, highlighted that the consultation is taking place in a context marked by profound technological and productive transformations that require a different preparation of human capital.

He pointed out that the Dominican Republic needs to adapt its educational system to respond to the challenges of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and ensure that future generations have the skills required by emerging jobs.

Meanwhile, the Director General of INFOTEP, Maira Morla Pineda, highlighted that the ongoing educational transformation requires greater articulation between education, technical-professional training, and the labor market, so that the skills acquired by citizens can be recognized and utilized more flexibly within the system. She pointed out that this approach seeks to expand opportunities for development and social mobility by allowing for more coherent training paths that are adapted to the country’s needs.

The educational transformation must allow the competencies acquired in different training spaces to be recognized and articulated within the same system”, stated Morla Pineda.

Following the presentations, a question-and-answer session was held in which journalists and media representatives exchanged concerns with officials regarding the scope of the consultation, the integration of the various educational subsystems, the participation of social sectors, and the process of drafting the preliminary bill that will emerge from this broad national dialogue exercise.

The National Consultation for the Future of Dominican Education includes regional and sectoral forums throughout the country and will culminate with the celebration of the National Congress of Education, where the main conclusions and proposals aimed at guiding the transformation of the Dominican educational system will be presented.
