New driver’s license will be issued to the public starting March 2nd

Santo Domingo.– The National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (Intrant) will begin on Monday, March 2, the issuance to the general public of the new driver’s license, as part of the system modernization process. Within the framework of this transition, President Luis Abinader will receive his new document on February 26. The new license replaces the model in force for the last 20 years and will be issued by the Mobility ID Consortium, the company awarded the tender. The document incorporates higher levels of security and complies with international standards, in accordance with the ISO/IEC 18013-5 standard.

The Intrant reported that service coverage will be expanded from 14 to 32 demarcations, including the 31 provinces and the National District. Abroad, the service will increase from five to ten consulates, in a gradual expansion that will conclude in the next two months. Since February 23, the transition to the new operating model is underway, which includes the change of supplier, new service locations, and process adjustments to increase the system’s capacity and ensure service continuity. As part of the deployment, between February 23rd and 26th, operations will be exclusively for the public and private chauffeur sector, including mass transit, in order to expedite procedures, reduce waiting times, and strengthen the order of the process.

The Intrant urged drivers to verify the validity of their license and go to the authorized offices for its issuance or renewal. The institution indicated that the new system will allow the progressive integration of more than one million motorcyclists who still do not have this document.

Second phase (next two months)

New locations will be added nationwide, including Monte Cristi, Dajabón, Monte Plata, San Pedro de Macorís, Samaná and Hato Mayor, as well as consulates in New Jersey, Barcelona, Puerto Rico, Brussels and Zurich, in addition to new GOB Points in Santo Domingo Este, Santo Domingo Norte and Santiago.
